Randal Bays is an internationally recognized fiddler and
guitarist in the Irish tradition, whose exquisite taste, grace,
and musical agility have won him wide praise both in Ireland and
the U.S.
"Still best known to many for his beautiful guitar playing on Martin
Hayes' early recordings, Randal is a maivelous fiddler, one of the
best in the country" -The Irish Voice, New York, January
2001.
He will be joined by Aine Meenaghan from Connemara, Co. Galway and
Peter Barnes, Co. Boston.
Aine Meenaghan, a native of Connemara, is one of the finest
singers in the world of Irish music, whose sean nos (old-style)
singing is a direct and powerful link to a centuries-old tradition.
She possesses a rare repertoire of songs in both Irish Gaelic, her
native language, and in English. Âme makes her home in Chicago and
has performed at concerts and festivals throughout the U.S., Canada
and Europe.
Following is a note from Randal about Aine:
This is a rare opportunity to hear Aine sing, and if you're at all
interested in Irish song or the Irish language, you'd love to hear
her. She's a native Irish speaker, and her singing is just incredible,
a direct and powerful link to a centuries-old tradition. Peter and I will
be tearing it up on the fiddle, piano and guitar, so there should be
something for everyone.
Peter Barnes (piano and guitar) is one of the busiest and
most sought after musicians in the Boston area, averaging over 250
engagements per year since 1980. He’s a master of tasteful accompaniment,
and has performed with many of the greats in Irish music, including
Seamus Connolly, Joe Derrane, Cathie Ryan, and others.
