The Preservation Hall Rhythm and Blues Band is the house group of the
Rhode Island Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society. Founded by Dr. Edward A. Coates (pictured),
the society preserves and promotes the history and legacy of African-American Blues entertainment
in the evolution of American popular music through activities, events and public education programs.
One of its goals is to provide instruments to young students who might not otherwise be able to pursue music.
The Hall Band covers material from the early days of R and B when groups like The Louis Jordan Band ruled the
dance floor and on through various R and B styles including Motown.
